Our long local nightmare is over... First round pick WR Jeremy Maclin has reached a deal with the Eagles and will presumably be in camp tomorrow. After Robert Ayers, who was selected just before Maclin, signed with Denver the deal couldn't have been more elementary especially given that the pick immediately after Maclin(Brandon Pettigrew) was also already signed.
It's silly that he's missed the time he has, it will no doubt affect his development at least early on... but it's over. Finally we'll get to see the kid on the field and the talk of holdouts and contracts and agents ect will be over. He has a lot of catching up to do, but there's a ton of raw talent to work with and we all can't wait to see not only what he does with the offense, but also with special teams.
The Inky reports that the deal is worth a total of $15.5 million and includes $9.5 million in guaranteed money.
Funny how good news always seems to quickly follow bad with the Eagles....

FINALLY!!!!! Now lets get down to some football!!!!!
midnitegreen - August 4, 2009
You missed 8 days for THAT??
What the hell was the point of this long holdout? With all the bells and whistles that came along with this Maclin holdout, you would’ve thought he was holding out for a $20 mil contract with more than $10 mil guaranteed. A week ago if you would’ve asked me or any other half-competent fan to guess what the contract numbers were going to be, they probably would’ve said close to those exact numbers ($9.5 guar and $15.5 total value).
For all I know though, Maclin could’ve been holding out for the bigger numbers listed above, but the Eagles just wouldn’t have it. Maybe he and his agent finally realized he was in a lose-lose situation.
Regardless, it’s good to finally have him signed!
Smitty2K3 - August 4, 2009
correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think you can participate in camp without a contract. I know players “holdout” for extensions but they already have a contract and can report to camp.
Like I said I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure this is the case. Either way you are right it’s good to finally have him signed.
Whodie126 - August 4, 2009
You're correct
No you’re right, I guess holdout is the wrong word. I understand Maclin couldn’t practice without a contract. I meant what was the point of this long contractual feud? If you were holding off from signing for so long, why, in the end, did you sign such a basic contract that fits in the slotting position.
My point was you would’ve thought he was going to shoot for top 15 or top 10 money.
Smitty2K3 - August 4, 2009
Maybe
it was a dispute over guaranteed money. A couple of years ago, guaranteeing $9.3 M out of $15.5 would have been considered ludicrous. Then again, giving a rook $73M also would have been impossible…
IronHank - August 4, 2009
Fair enough
Whodie126 - August 4, 2009
Also possible...
Always a chance the Eagles didn’t want to give him 9.5/15.5, and he had to fight to get what he ended up with in the end. Just a reverse angle.
108 - August 4, 2009
wow
he needs to fire his agent
jack is better than asante - August 4, 2009
Good news, long overdue. Optimistic about what JMac can bring to the return game.
andyreidswaistline - August 4, 2009
You know that move that females do where after you’d f’ed up somehow, they fold their arms and won’t look at you, and then when you try to get in their line of vision, and turn away again so as to avoid any kind of eye-contact?
That’s what I’m doing with Maclin right now.
JimmyK - August 4, 2009
I'm awesome
I called it: “suck up some happy and sign for $16M, w/ only 9-10 guarenteed or whatever.” Somewhere in the comments for:

Sparki - August 4, 2009
I still say he’s needs to be boo’d at camp. Anyone there better be booing.
Sparki - August 4, 2009
You know that if he has a shred of talent, he will hold out on this five year contract. WRs should not be able to sign any deals over 3 years.
hessshaun - August 4, 2009
how convienient...
this guy just joined BGN today. But then again, so did i.
Eagle4life - August 4, 2009

dcyytexas - August 4, 2009
He was in Allentown PA.
Funny nobody believes what I typed when I saw him with my own 2 eyes but everyone believes what some reporter types and anyone with a brain should know not to believe what a news reporter types.
I am telling you he was in Allentown airport yesterday.
I will not defend my story anymore.
GO EAGLES
OPIE AND ANTHONY - August 4, 2009

JimmyK - August 4, 2009

Jeremiah
I think he will catch up pretty quick. He and Deshaun Jackson could be scary the way I hope Bernard Berrian and Percy Harvin will be.
Maclin should have been taken ahead of Hey-Bey. So should have Crabtree, Harvin and maybe even Hakim Nicks. Eagles will be happy. I hope it comes down to Philly and Minny for the NFC. I have always respected Andy Reid and although I hope the Vikes would win, if not, I wanna see McNabb get a ring. He deserves it.
VikesPma - August 4, 2009
Nice bud, thanks.
I hope the Vikes do well too, not as well as the Eagles, but well enough. =)
EagleGreeninMD - August 4, 2009

This was one of the more entertaining threads in a while. If you talk BS on BGN, you will get torched :)

(Standing at microphone) “It was a total team effort. All the guys just showed a lot of heart out there. That’s why we put in all the hard work in the offseason. I’d like to thank God, my mom, JasonB, and all the fans.”

awd777 - August 4, 2009
Haha, great, now my comments that were replies to Opie don’t make any sense.
JimmyK - August 4, 2009
Nice
Maclin could not have been there snubbing disabled kids, he was busy snapping off the horns of unicorns in the enchanted sugar plum forest at the imaginary tea party of Hitler and Stalin, hence why he missed morning practice.
Thanks Guys with the Passing of JJ and now SB hurt for the year it was good to get a thread that I could laugh about and have every one at work looking at me like I am nuts
Two Nickels - August 4, 2009
